Try not to brush them off or push through whatever is causing you to feel anxious \u2014 your mental health matters and if you\u2019re feeling stressed, understand that you can take a step back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this blog post, you\u2019ll learn five strategies to take care of yourself when you\u2019re feeling overwhelmed, and what to do before that happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-the-signs-and-symptoms-of-feeling-overwhelmed-nbsp\">What Are the Signs and Symptoms of Feeling Overwhelmed?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Stress is a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/health\/diseases\/11874-stress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">normal response<\/a>&nbsp;to challenges or changes. It\u2019s a natural human reaction to our environment. It\u2019s okay \u2014 and healthy \u2014 to feel stress. But sometimes, it may be too much, and you might feel overwhelmed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/balance\/stress-management\/stress-symptoms-effects_of-stress-on-the-body\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to WebMD<\/a>, stress can make you feel more emotional than usual, anxious, and restless, or may cause headaches, body aches, and tense muscles.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other signs and symptoms might include irritability, changes in sleep or appetite, and just feeling tired overall.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overwhelm often emerges when there\u2019s just too much going on. You may feel too much input, too much stress, too many things to do. When you feel overwhelmed, you may feel like you can\u2019t escape the stress or can\u2019t cope with it in a healthy way.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-ways-to-feel-less-overwhelmed-using-a-self-care-plan-nbsp\">5 Ways to Feel Less Overwhelmed Using a Self-Care Plan&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be difficult to juggle all of your responsibilities at the same time, and self-care can often feel like just another thing tacked onto the list. Making yourself a self-care plan before you start to feel overwhelmed means you can more easily turn to what makes you feel better. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Self-care plans are personal, which can be just the thing for when things feel like too much. So what should you do when you feel overwhelmed?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-take-a-deep-breath-and-step-away\">1. Take a deep breath and step away.\u202f<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re feeling overwhelmed or anxious, a quick way to begin to alleviate those feelings is by doing breathing exercises. If the thing that\u2019s overwhelming you is in front of you, try taking a step away from it to create some separation between you and whatever is making you feel this way. While we all have responsibilities to take care of, those little extra events, dates and errands can pile up. Sometimes, saying \u201cno\u201d and setting healthy boundaries can be just what you need.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-be-kind-to-yourself\">3. Be kind to yourself.\u202f<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that it is OK to feel overwhelmed. It also helps to remember that feeling overwhelmed doesn\u2019t have to last. Give yourself some grace \u2013 if you don\u2019t get to that chore or have to ask for an extension at work, you can. Your mental health should be a top priority.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-ask-for-help-from-a-loved-one\">4. Ask for help from a loved one.\u202f<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your social support network is there for you to lean on if you need to vent or talk things through. Reach out to a friend, get coffee and chat with a coworker, or pick up the phone and call a family member.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-write-it-out\">5. Write it out.\u202f<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Writing down why you feel overwhelmed or anxious is another great way to help alleviate those feelings.
