Of the people who had a mental illness\nin the past year, only 41 percent received mental health services to address\nthem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nami.org\/learn-more\/mental-health-by-the-numbers\">National\nAlliance on Mental Illness<\/a>, there are often \u201clong delays \u2013 sometimes\ndecades \u2013 between the first appearance of symptoms and when people get help.\u201d\nThere can be several reasons, including access to resources, cost and the\nstigma associated with mental health problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite living in a time where people are more open about\ntheir thoughts and feelings, people are still often ashamed to discuss mental\nhealth concerns and might be hesitant to seek treatment and support because of\nwhat others will think. But treatment and support are still needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a loved one or friend of someone who may be struggling,\nyour role is to provide support and resources when possible. If they aren\u2019t\nready to seek help in person, that\u2019s okay. You can share other resources and\n#BeTheDifference today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>These are just a few resources to reach out for mental\nhealth support anonymously. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Hotlines. <\/strong>There are hotlines that can help you with general mental health concerns and with specific problems, like abuse or suicide. The Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women\u2019s Health provides a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealth.gov\/mental-health\/get-help-now\">available hotlines<\/a>. A few that are available 24\/7 include:<br><br><strong>The Crisis Call Center:<\/strong> 775-784-8090 <br><strong>The National Suicide Prevention Hotline:<\/strong> 1-800-273-TALK (8255)<br><strong>The National Domestic Violence Hotline:<\/strong> 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)<br><strong>Crisis Text Line:<\/strong> Text HOME to 741741<br> <\/li><li><strong>Apps. <\/strong>If you\u2019re not comfortable talking to someone on the phone about your concerns, you can get information, resources and support through an app. A few <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalnewstoday.com\/articles\/320557.php\">apps<\/a>, available on Android and iPhone, that focus on improving mental health include: \u00a0<br> <\/li><li><strong>Pacifica: <\/strong>Audio lessons and activities help you manage stress and depression, resources using methods like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and an online community for support.<br><\/li><li><strong>7 Cups: <\/strong>More than 160,000 trained listeners and licensed therapists are available to provide online therapy or emotional support.<br><\/li><li><strong>Talkspace: <\/strong>Connect to affordable and convenient resources that will help you understand your symptoms.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.grafik.mentalhealthfirstaid.org\/app\/uploads\/2025\/09\/082119_MHFA_AnonymousHelpInfographic-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18850\"\/><\/figure>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you or someone you know is considering suicide, call 9-1-1 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
