That\u2019s why it\u2019s important to understand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org\/2019\/04\/how-much-is-too-much\/\">what low-risk drinking is<\/a> and how you can stay within your personal limits to avoid at-risk or deadly consequences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Use these 15 tips for low-risk drinking in your everyday life. <\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Know what a standard drink is and the number of standard drinks you consume.<\/li>\n<li>Know the alcohol content of your drink.<\/li>\n<li>See if the number of standard drinks is listed on the beverage\u2019s packaging.<\/li>\n<li>Eat while drinking.<\/li>\n<li>Drink plenty of water on a drinking occasion to prevent dehydration.<\/li>\n<li>Drink beverages with lower alcohol content.<\/li>\n<li>Switch to nonalcoholic drinks when you start to feel the effects of alcohol.<\/li>\n<li>Do not let others \u201ctop\u201d your drink before it is finished, so you don\u2019t lose track of how much alcohol you have consumed.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid keeping up with your friends drink for drink.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid participating in drinking competitions and drinking games.<\/li>\n<li>Drink slowly, for example, by taking sips instead of gulps and putting the drink down between sips.<\/li>\n<li>Have one drink at a time.<\/li>\n<li>Spend your time in activities that don\u2019t involve drinking.<\/li>\n<li>Make drinking alcohol a complementary activity instead of the sole activity.<\/li>\n<li>Identify situations where drinking is likely and avoid them, if possible.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you\u2019re still not sure what your limit is or how to change your personal or a loved one\u2019s drinking habits, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org\/take-a-course\/find-a-course\/\">take a Mental Health First Aid course<\/a> today.
